Pilates

Here at Core Conditioning and sports injury clinic we offer individually tailored Pilates programs. Individual Pilates programs can be used to help build flexibility, muscle strength and muscle endurance.

The Pilates method was the work of Joseph Pilates who believed that injuries were caused by muscle and joint imbalances in the body. Joseph reasoned that correcting misaligned body segments and re-educating muscle movement patterns could rehabilitate injuries and help prevent them from reoccurring.

The traditional Pilates exercises were designed for dancers and gymnasts and therefore require flexibility, strength and body awareness that the general population does not possess.

The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute, a worldwide leader in modified Pilates instruction, train our physiotherapists. Physiotherapists specifically for use in a rehabilitation setting designed the modified Pilates method. The traditional Pilates exercises are broken down into achievable movements that are appropriate for the general population. Exercises are only prescribed on an individual basis following a thorough assessment and have standardised levels of progression to address a wide variety of issues.

Modified Pilates exercises can be used to treat a wide variety of issues including:

  • Muscle Injuries
  • Whiplash
  • Poor Balance
  • Arthritis

Pilates can also be used to complement all our soft tissue therapies to improve flexibility, posture and control.
